This work associates the word “queimão”, which is used when a product is on sale, to the word “queimada’’, which is used when something is set on fire. Through these words I reflect on the sale of Brazilian land for extremely low values to other countries, on the burning of the Amazon forest to make room for cattlepastures, and especially on an auction that took place in the southeast region of the country in the 1970s, during the period of the military dictatorship. On that occasion, the government announced a satellite sale for extremely low prices of land in the region of Roraima, with the objective of populating that area. Several
people bought land and when they arrived in Roraima, they discovered that the entire region was inhabited by native peoples. This led to various conflicts, and several indigenous people were killed in an attempt to defend themselves and not be expelled from their lands.
